2nd CatchMod Technical Workshop - Integrating tools and toolboxes - (16-18 November
2004) |
 | Objectives & structure of the workshop |
 | Session2 |
In the light of the expressed need
for a guiding toolbox, the timeline of the CatchMod projects and the
need to improve the accessibility of models and tools to different
target groups the first objective is:
- Develop a common view on
toolboxes which allows incorporation of CatchMod tools such as
'dedicated toolboxes', 'individual models and tools',
'guidances', 'Decision support systems' etc.
- Design an
action plan that will help increase harmonisation, transparency and
comparability of tools, models and toolboxes.
The objectives mentioned above should be achieved
in session 2, as depicted in the figure showing the structure of the
workshop. | Session 3 |
Selecting the right tools is an
essential part in the development of integrated River Basin
Management Plans and confident selection of effective programmes of
measures. Since the WFD prescribes (a.o.) integration of natural
sciences with socio-economics, two parallel sessions will be
organized on the two fields of expertise, and a synthesizing plenary
session will take place (session 3a-c). The main objective of this
session is to provide overview on tool selection strategies, discuss
and synthesise this know-how and advice on future activities.
 | Session 4 |
The
selection of the right tools depends very much on the availability
and accessibility of input data. This holds for calculations of
measures, assessments and information for participation process and
social learning. The objective of the workshop is to discuss the
data issues (availability, accessibility, accuracy) required by
models and tools, leading to an advice for water managers on the
required data for river basin management from a tools perspective.
As for the tool selection session, two parallel sessions will take
place followed by a plenary synthesizing discussion (session 4a-c).
 | Session 5 |
Besides incorporating models and
tools in a toolbox, the actual use of models and tools can be
increased if they are embedded in guidances or information systems.
Harmoni-CA's general methodology initiative and the WISE-CE
web-portal provide the vehicles to link models and tools to various
steps in the development of Integrated River Basin Management plans
(note that WISE-CE is the current working title. A final name will
be determined end of August). Based on the current state of both
initiatives the objective of the workshop is to establish closer
links between the products of CatchMod and these facilities.
(session 5a).
Many projects have by now produced
products that can be used or tested by others. The workshop will
provide opportunities to give tutorials and provide information on
closer collaboration (session 5b).
