WP6 : Co-ordination of ongoing & future projects Back

Work package 6 focuses on the information flow between projects, but more importantly, on "linking people", who share the same interests. Effectively, new topical networks of specialists crosscutting different projects boundaries should emerge.

Linking people can only be effectively done on a voluntary basis. Thus it is very important that the benefit outweighs the effort.

Objectives

The specific objectives are:
  1. Improve the view on recent, ongoing and planned national and international projects relevant to the implementation of the WFD, thus improving the view on the state of the art.
  2. Provide other work packages within Harmoni-CA and other interested groups of up to date (detailed) information on ongoing research.
  3. Bring together the specialists of ongoing related research to elaborate amongst themselves the approaches and solutions for the problems encountered.
  4. Increase the output and benefit of ongoing research by clustering, co-ordinating and synchronising ongoing and planned research.
  5. Speed up the (re-) use of developed products of individual projects by other projects;
  6. Improve dissemination of knowledge and products;
  7. Reduces the chance of duplicating activities;
Co-ordination will include EU-related projects (a/o the CATCHMOD working packages), but also national and worldwide activities.

Methodology

To reach these objectives first dedicated web-based information system on ongoing (and planned) research will be developed which allows querying on the content of work packages. This website shows the content, status, start date and end date of projects and their work packages. This level of detail is a necessity since many projects contain relevant research and developments on this level, which does not receive sufficient attention in the general project description. The work package participants will fill the database with the information of relevant projects in which they are involved. Furthermore the participants will address project managers on all levels to up-load their project details to the database. Additionally ongoing and planned projects will be globally reviewed on their relevancy for Harmoni-CA.

Though querying the database is open to the public, the participants will maintain and analyse the database, looking for commonalties between projects’ tasks.

The results of the queries will be reported and appropriate measures will be taken, such as:
  • Addressing project managers of related projects to inform them about each other’s projects.
  • Facilitating and stimulating tuning of work packages,
  • Facilitating and overseeing web-based (private or public) elaboration of issues / problems addressed in multiple projects.
  • Organising meetings or workshops of these experts.
